Enjoy the show!!!

The true show is once again coming to town!!! The fashionistas are in the festive mood, the media coverage is grand as always, people are talking about it whenever a tall skinny girl passes them by... No, its not the Cirque d'hiver!!! It is the fashion week!!! La setimanna di moda, or La semaine du mode...never mind the language spoken. we are looking at 4 world cities in the next 3 and a half weeks, following the renowned brands and new faces, models and editors, high heels and hopefully warm coats, previews and after show parties!

...

Monday morning...like it matters, since the weekend was spent as any other day during the fashion week...running around, fitting and working! i even made it to Brooklyn!!! :-) Don't even get me started about the Valentine's day which i hope you enjoyed more then me.
Anyway, the first show of the day was Carolina Herrera...!!!! A great team of people (yes, i do include models) working for it...When we were about to start the show, casting director stood up and gave a little motivating speech...very sincere one if i may add. I wouldn't quote it here, but what it did for me today, i will be very grateful for. It has returned the special feeling you get just before you hit the runway, they call your name, you straighten the lining on a dress, make the first step, and lock your eyes on the central camera...enjoying yourself so much!!! Music is wonderful, the girl returning of the runway smiles at you, just a glance at her, then again the cameras, music speeds up, everything is very bright, middle line is yours...and stop!!! There is a pose at the end!!! You know there is a big screen in the backstage... friends are watching you, designer is happy, and all those people in the audience...silent!!! Sometimes you can hear parts of some words like "wonder...", "...yfull", " ... at this one", ... And then the  flashes!!! There's no better compliment to that dress you are wearing then the sound of dozen of cameras flashing, almost hypnotising you, make seconds seem like a wonderful trance... And then you head back..don't forget to smile to the girl coming out, just few more steps, and there you are, backstage again...all went great, you try to catch your breath like you just ran a mile, even your cheeks are a  bit red, but thats fine..there's always someone to retouch the make up, make it all white and flawless again, just like the camera likes it! The Finalle, the dramatic music, the applause, the crowd standing, even more flashes...so it ends, the true show!
That casting director said only few words but it sounded sincere, truthful,  they made us matter as persons, not just beautiful manequines ...
We all know who we are, but it is good to make sure once in a while that rest of you know too. :-))) I thank him  for that!

When Dostoyevsky wrote that beauty will save the world, he referred to a very specific kind of beauty... The only real and powerful, the one that can control, is the one in unity with suffering...pain, disappointment, and scars... It is never an empty word, a billboard hanging of the Soho building or a picture published in a fashion magazine!! Beauty is every disadvantage we turned into our gain, every step we skipped when no one was looking, every tear we masked with a stunning smile...
For a great man, Alexander McQueen...and his world!

Snow Storm

Yeah, it could be a metaphor for a, lets say, energetic performance of the models running down the
Fashion Avenue, but no! No,no... it is an actual snow storm, i mean, couldnt it just come for the New Year's, or Christmas??? It really had to come now when you are expected to be in heels, with an amazing hair do and a smile on your face!!!
Anyway, after finishing my morning set of castings, paying a visit to mrs. Herrera. Narciso Rodriguez and Zac Posen...i came back to my warm apartment, made a soy latte and started this post...
As i watch through the window, i cant help but think about this storm again. They say every 10-20 years NYC experiences somthing like this... The snow captures the city as it is trying to slow it down, almost make it stop. It didnt work for some of us...i still woke up at 7am, went to the gym, did my castings, got some groceries...like any other day. But i feel almost like i shoulnt have done that...what if we really need to slow down, even stop? Would that be so bad? Really, what would happen if we suddenly, unexpectedly, without a reason, just stop? Only, the time still runs...so are we i guess...
Speaking of running, its time to run for a fitting... Maybe i ll just walk, try to compromise with the Mother Nature...
Untill later...stay warm!

Another busy day! (no, I am not complaining that I am tired, that my feet hurts and that I will have my first cooked meal in 3 days, only if my flat mate prepares something)Those words won't come from me!!! :-) Anyway, let me get home, and tell you all about it then!

Getting started

Got this idea of starting a blog of my own after seeing a movie called Julie&Julia (some free advertising for it :-) ) It is an adorable movie though...
The thing is, fashion week - the week of chaos, high heels, and tall skinny girls - is starting in 3 days here in NYC (so Feb 11th)
A lot of people will be following this particular subject, but as an "insider" i felt i should share the details with the "netizens" and fashionistas, if there will be any following my writings. Also, since i neither keep a paper diary nor i pay visits to a therapist it seems like a good idea just to write down and sum up the happenings at the three fashion capitals...starting with NYC. :-)
Castings for the runway shows have started couple of days ago, and i already feel like i ve done the whole month of shows, climbed Mount Everest, then did another 20 shows and finally got ran over by a heavy vehicle....BUT as they say - you cant have it all - so i will pull myself together and enjoy this beautiful vanity fair!!!
Like in many professions, the trick is to have the best equipment in order to do the work properly...so few weeks ago, while staying in Paris i ve done a little shopping (hope my banker wont read this) and provide myself with the best of Miu Miu, Givenchy, Helmut Lang and Marc Jacobs. Needless to say that fashion is not always comfortable and that i ve been having back pain from high heels, and a displaced shoulder from the heavy bags i still found myself shopping online at Saks and Bergdorfs for higher heel shoes and bigger winter bags... oh, come on, i am young, i can handle it!
So, lets go back to the atmosphere in the fashion circles while the countdown for the day one of the FW has already started...
Yesterday i had to see only few designers and casting directors, i even made it to the gym and went out a bit...but tomorrow...the wave will hit the land! Derek Lam, Carolina Herera, Zac Posen and Jason Wu in the morning (thanks God that they have the same casting director), followed by Badgly Mishka, Joseph Altuzarra and Alexander Wang in the afternoon...on top of it all i should show up at the Victoria Secret casting, probably for some of their upcoming projects, since they are not showing at the FW.
Still, its not all work in this industry....There is a very good friend of mine in town...of course, she is in this business as well, as a stylist though... I ll just say she works for the Uomo Vogue and i cant wait all the details from her last shoot with a hot male celebrity... i promise not to keep it a secret if its very interesting! :-)))
Anyway, we arranged to see this illusionist at some Soho theatre, i am really looking forward to the relaxing evening, i mean, if i ever make it through out the day...and with this weather, really, who ever is in charge, please, raise the temperature for few degrees!!!!! Thank you!!!
Well...i should save something for tomorrows writ ting...so, let me pack the Miu Miu's along with the Addidas for the early training, and finally retire for today...just before midnight-such a modern Cinderella story. :-)
Fingers xrossed, lights off, eyes closed, head on the pillow, oh yes...alarm on! 07:00 AM - no snooze!!!!
Good night...
